Personality Dimensions® Statistics

PD-Stats-beachThis year we told The PD Stats Robot (patent still pending) that he couldn’t go on his vacation until he published the yearly Personality Dimensions® statistics. Working diligently with his eye on the prize, he churned out this year’s report.

Once again The PD Stats Robot and the rest of the staff at CLSR Inc. would like to thank all of the Certified Trainers who took the time to send in their workshop statistics over the past year.  Collecting workshop statistics allows us to do further research on the reliability and validity of Personality Dimensions®.  If you look at the Primary Colour Breakdowns over the past 14 years, you will notice very little change with them over time; In fact, there is no change from last year and the year before in the percentage breakdowns. How’s that for reliability?!?! Full statistics for the Canadian market, including this year’s, are published every year in July and are posted at: http://www.personalitydimensions.com/published-statistics

Collecting workshop statistics also helps us in creating new products.  For example, the job categories found in Career Dimensions™ were taken directly from the statistics reported to us by Certified Trainers. Your statistics also helped us in developing the recently released PD for Youth Online™, and PD Basics Online.

We ask that every time you conduct an Introductory or Application Session, even if you had your clients take the assessment online,  that you keep track of your participants’ Primary Colour Preference, and Introversion/Extraversion preference.  You can find a form on the USB included with your Building Blocks/Manual to do this.  Statistics can then be faxed to 905-760-0113, or emailed to stats@clsr.ca.  You can also submit your statistics through the web at: http://www.personalitydimensions.com/submit-your-statistics.

Once received at our office, our PD Stats Robot (patent still pending) diligently processes and categorizes every number and colour submitted!  Also, remember to submit your statistics even if you are administering Personality Dimensions® Online.  Remember that the assessment component isn’t the final word on an individual’s primary colour, especially if scores are close; clarification also comes from the Brightening Group exercises in a workshop.

Until next time, join us in wishing PD Stats Robot (patent still pending) safe travels and a relaxing vacation.

Personality Dimensions® Meet the Authors

Lynn DennisWhen I look back on my career I am often reminded how fortunate I’ve been to know so many great people. And it always amazes me how often the same people have shown up at various points throughout my working life (which, let’s face it, has been rather long so I guess the odds are in favour of this happening, but I still find it surprising). One such person is a colleague who, if I recall correctly, I connected with through a now-defunct professional association in the late ‘80’s or early ‘90’s. It’s my pleasure to introduce you to Lynn Dennis, co-author of PD for Youth Foundations Facilitators Guide.

Lynn Dennis was introduced to temperament theory in 1992 when she started working at the Etobicoke Career Centre with Carol Tumber. This knowledge and self-awareness has benefitted all aspects of her personal and working life.

Lynn continues to use Personality Dimensions® with career counselling clients, colleagues, friends and family.

In training, Lynn never shares her dominant colour. Rather, she wants everyone to think that she is “their colour” and therefore understands the integral parts of their temperament. It is always important that the workshops are delivered honouring all four temperaments … and that the workshops are well organized, delivered in a timely fashion, with lots of practical handouts.

Degrees:  B.P.H.E (University of Toronto), B.Ed. (University of Western Ontario), Ontario Teaching Certificate with Guidance and Physical Education Specialist, OCT (Ontario Colleges of Teacher), Certificate in Guiding Circles, Personality Dimensions Level III Master Trainer, and is qualified to administer the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

Yours, from the back office …

Denise Hughes is the Director and owner of Denise HeadshotCLSR Inc. and general editor of Personality Dimensions® materials and products. She just noticed the calendar and realized it is just past the 44th anniversary of her introduction to career and type and temperament materials. Those experiences and the expertise she gained through her years with the Guidance Centre, University of Toronto, and now with CLSR, continue to shape the direction that both CLSR and Personality Dimensions® take.

Personality Dimensions® for Youth Foundations

PD-for-Youth-Foundations

As many Personality Dimensions® facilitators are aware, we have an ongoing commitment to continuous research and development of Personality Dimensions® materials. For the last year or so we’ve focussed that commitment on recognizing the diverse needs of the youth population and developing materials that support the very timely and much needed Youth Employment initiatives across the country.

Following extensive beta testing this past Fall – with our sincere thanks to all who participated – it’s my real pleasure to announce that the PD for Youth™ online assessment is now available! The accompanying PD for Youth Foundations™ Facilitators Guide will be available on February 26th.

Want to take a test drive of the PD for Youth™ online assessment? Email or call us, and we’ll be delighted to provide you with a complimentary credit on your online account.

What makes the PD for Youth™ online assessment and Foundations Facilitator Guide unique is that they were designed for youth in youth employment and/or career development settings. Unlike the classic materials, PD for Youth™ is tailored to suit the needs and experiences of this age group, encouraging them to explore their values, how they see themselves while learning, with their friends and family and in the world of work. Facilitators can adapt the content of the Foundations guide to suit the direction and time frame that they need to work effectively with their youth group.

In addition to leading your participants through an introductory Personality Dimensions® workshop, the Foundations Guide also walks you through a career building application workshop.

Activities include:

  • Identifying key strengths brought to the workplace by each colour
  • Preparing for an informational interview
  • Exploring job search methods

Handouts and PowerPoint® presentation for both the introductory session as well as the career building workshop are all included. The PD for Youth Foundations™ Facilitators Guide is packaged onto a USB drive for portability and easy access on current technology.

I can’t speak for anyone else, of course, but I am personally delighted to be able to bring these great, immediately useful resources to you.

Yours, from the back office.

~Denise

Personality Dimensions® – Meet the Master Trainers

emil photoOver the last few years it has become increasingly clear to me that we needed to do more to support Personality Dimensions® facilitators who were working with youth. To that end we have developed an online report as well as Youth Participant Packs. But it wasn’t enough. Having a facilitator’s guide, which took into consideration age and experience levels appropriate for youth, was the next logical step. I turned to Emil Boychuk for help. I have known Emil for many years and was well aware of the work that he and a core group of Personality Dimensions® facilitators within the Toronto District School Board had already done, including mapping out a lot of activities and workshops that would be extremely valuable for working with youth in either school or employment centre settings. Graciously, he agreed and the result is the new PD for Youth Foundations Facilitators Guide. It is my privilege to introduce you to Emil Boychuk, Personality Dimensions® III Master Trainer.

Emil has been fascinated by personality theories and personal and career development his whole life. He was introduced to David Keirsey’s temperament theory and another temperament theory model while working at the Toronto Centre for Career Action, Toronto Board of Education, in 1992. Along with getting certified as a facilitator and delivering many workshops for students and school staff, Emil was involved in training other teachers and counsellors to become facilitators. With the advent of Personality Dimensions® he upgraded his training to become a Personality Dimensions® facilitator and Level II trainer. In collaboration with Lynn Dennis, Emil ran Level I training workshops for teachers and counsellors for over 10 years.

Now retired from full employment with the TDSB, however, Emil continues to be involved in helping youth with career planning through individual counselling and a work skills simulation program called “WonderTech”. He is a long-standing member, and current co-chair, of the Association of Career Educators (ACE), formerly, Association of Career Centres in Educational Settings (ACCES). ACE has been focusing on delivering workshops for parents on guiding and supporting the educational and career development of their youth (www.aceofontario.ca). He continues to facilitate Personality Dimensions® awareness workshops for youth and adults and it continues to be a great delight for him to witness people discovering great things about themselves and others.

Emil reports that Personality Dimensions® is an integral part of his life and it has enabled him to be a better husband, parent, friend, teacher, counsellor and leader counsellor and leader and to maximize his strengths as an Inquiring Green and allow his Authentic Blue to shine. He is deeply grateful for all the people in the Personality Dimensions® fold who have influenced him through their writings, conferences, workshops and collaboration.

Degrees: Degrees: B.A. (Philosophy and Literature); B. Theology (and graduate work in Ethics); graduate work in Educational Psychology; Ontario Teaching Certificate with Guidance Specialist; Masters Certificate in Constructivist Counselling. Certificate in Narrative Counselling (CareerCycles).

Personality Dimensions® – Making a Difference

pexels-photo-264636.jpegEvery once in a while we get little reminders that what we do makes a difference in the lives of others. A while ago I had just such a reminder. It arrived at a time when I was wondering if the work that we do researching, developing and, ultimately, adding to the Personality Dimensions® system really did make an impact. Let me tell you a little story…

I was standing in line at the grocery store, reading the headlines of the tabloids and looking at the pictures of the cookies displayed on the cover of a couple magazines and noticed that the cashier was looking up at me every so often. My turn came and after I’d finished loading my purchases onto the belt the cashier said, “I know who you are … you’re the colours lady.” I hadn’t a clue who she was.

She told me that she was, after several years working at various jobs, going back to school to get her ECE diploma so she could work with young children. She concluded with, “… and don’t you think that’s perfect for someone who is Authentic Blue?” I agreed with her that it sounded like a great choice and she was really pleased. I still didn’t know who she was.

Finally, I told her that I was delighted she remembered her temperament/colour but I hadn’t done any training in a while so I couldn’t place her. It turned out that she had been a member of a group of high school students who prototyped the earliest Personality Dimensions® at School materials twelve years prior!

I don’t know if this young woman is now working with young children, or perhaps she’s moved on to something different. What I do know is that learning her Personality Dimensions® was a memorable experience for her and has played a role in shaping her choices. I also know that yes, what we do does make a difference. I hope that every Personality Dimensions® Facilitator knows and appreciates this responsibility, I know that I do.

Personality Dimensions® Statistics

PD Stats Robot (Patent Pending)

The PD Stats Robot (patent still pending) got out of his storage closet… I mean office…  and took an early vacation before crunching a year’s worth of Personality Dimensions® workshop statistics, so this year’s published statistics are a little later than usual.  The PD Stats Robot and the rest of the staff at CLSR Inc. would like to thank all of the Certified Trainers who took the time to send in their workshop statistics over the past year.  Collecting workshop statistics allows us to do further research on the reliability and validity of Personality Dimensions®.  If you look at the Primary Colour Breakdowns over the past 13 years, you will notice very little change with them over time; In fact, there is no change over last year’s percentage breakdowns.  Full statistics for the Canadian market, including this year’s are published every year in July and are posted at: http://www.personalitydimensions.com/published-statistics

Collecting workshop statistics also helps us in creating new products.  For example, the job categories found in Career Dimensions™ were taken directly from the statistics reported to us by Certified Trainers. Your statistics also helped us in developing the upcoming PD for Youth Online™, and a few other things that will be announced in the coming months.

We ask that every time you conduct an Introductory or Application Session, even if you had your clients take the assessment online,  that your keep track of your participants’ Primary Colour Preference, and Introversion/Extraversion preference.  You can find a form on the disk included with your Building Blocks/Manual to do this.  Statistics can then be faxed in to 905-760-0113, or emailed to stats@clsr.ca.  You can also submit your statistics through the web at: http://www.personalitydimensions.com/submit-your-statistics.

Personality Dimensions® – PD Basics Online™ Now Available

It has always been our aim to make Personality Dimensions® as widely accessible to as many people as possible around the world.  You may remember earlier this year we asked you, the ones who deliver Personality Dimensions® all the time, where you wanted us to focus our efforts next.  Overwhelmingly you told us that you wanted to have PD Basics™ put online… and we’ve done just that!  We could have just put the paper-based assessment online, but that just isn’t our style… we wanted to give your more.  PD Basics Online™ has all the same parts as the paper-based assessment but we’ve added to the report to include other areas: Getting Along With the four personalities, Problems Caused By, Rewarding each of the personalities, and descriptions of Preferred Work Environments.

PD Basics™ was created with lower English literacy skills in mind.  It was painstakingly edited, reviewed, re-edited, and reviewed many times over to bring it to a reasonable and consistent grade level;  It falls somewhere between a grade 4 -5 on the Flesch–Kincaid readability test.  It uses the same concepts, and some of the same terminology at the original Personality Dimensions® assessment, but removes the colloquialisms, and slang terms that can be difficult to understand for adults who are learning English, or have lower literacy skills.

If you’re working with youth/teenagers, this assessment isn’t for you.  We have a different version of Personality Dimensions® for them – PD for Youth™.  PD for Youth™ uses phrases, terminology, and life experiences that are more in line with this age group, and is more relatable.  Right now it is available in the paper-based format with Participant Packs™ and Dimensions Cards™, but we are working hard to get it up and running online for the beginning of September.  PD for Youth Online™ will have a bunch of new content for the report, and all new Dimensions Cards™, and we’ll let you know when it’s ready.

Access to PD Basics Online™ has already been added to existing qualifying accounts on CLSRassessments.com, but if you want to try it out for yourself, let us know and we can add a free credit to your account so you can see how it looks.  Email us at info@clsr.ca, or give us a call at 1-877-680-0200 / 905-760-0111.
