It’s that time of year again… when the PD Stats Robot (patent still pending) pops out of its work cube and sees its shadow, it’s time to see this past year’s Personality Dimensions® statistics.

Many of you undoubtably will recognize the PD Stats Robot (patent still pending), the hardest working, semi-autonomous employee we have ever had! After many years of residing in the suburbs of Toronto, the PD Stats Robot (patent still pending) packed up their cube and headed east. But good news, they are still churning out statistics with us, while working part-time as a lighthouse keeper. I had no idea how many transferable skills there are between the two jobs until we sat down to go over this year’s report.

Once again, the staff at CLSR Inc. would like to thank all the Certified Trainers who took the time to send in their workshop statistics over the past year.  Collecting workshop statistics allows us to do further research on the reliability and validity of Personality Dimensions®.  If you look at the Primary Colour Breakdowns over the past 17 years, you will notice very little change with them over time; In fact, there was a less than 1% variance with two of the Dimensions over the past several years. That’s some pretty good reliability scores!  Full statistics for the Canadian market, including this year’s, are published every year in July and are posted at: http://www.personalitydimensions.com/published-statistics 

Remember, every time you conduct an Introductory or Application Session, even if you had your clients take the assessment online, that you keep track of your participants’ Primary Colour Preference, and Introversion/Extraversion preference.  You can find a form on the USB included with your Building Blocks/Manual to do this.  Statistics can then be faxed to 905-760-0113, or emailed to stats@clsr.ca.  You can also submit your statistics through the web at: http://www.personalitydimensions.com/submit-your-statistics.

Please remember to submit your statistics, even if you are administering Personality Dimensions® Online.  Remember that the assessment component isn’t the final word on an individual’s primary colour, especially if scores are close; clarification also comes from the Brightening Group exercises in a workshop.

Personality Dimensions – Remembering Kate Jones

kateIt is a sad day for the CLSR family today; it is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Kate Jones.  Kate was an amazing person that touched the lives of many individuals, and was many things to many people; trainer, author, editor, coach; but most important, she was our friend.

Kate together with her husband Wayne have been continuous supporters of us over the years. Their contributions have been valuable in making Personality Dimensions what it is today.  Kate was always up for a new project and tackling new challenges.

There was no such thing as a quick phone call or visit with Kate, but for good reason. Her upbeat personality and positivity was no short of amazing, and you would just want to keep talking. Conversations that started out as business would turn into conversations about family adventures, until she would eventually say “we should probably get back to business.”  While we’ve never had the pleasure of meeting Kate and Wayne’s children and grandchildren, we feel like we already know them. Kate was also their greatest cheerleader and so proud of their accomplishments.

In honour of Kate, go out today and do something positive; be someone’s cheerleader and don’t be afraid to take on a new challenge.

Kate’s family is planning a celebration of life in the near future.

Personality Dimensions® for Youth Foundations

As many Personality Dimensions® facilitators are aware, we have an ongoing commitment to continuous research and development of Personality Dimensions® materials. For the last year or so we’ve focussed that commitment on recognizing the diverse needs of the youth population and developing materials that support the very timely and much needed Youth Employment initiatives across the country.

Following extensive beta testing this past Fall – with our sincere thanks to all who participated – it’s my real pleasure to announce that the PD for Youth™ online assessment is now available! The accompanying PD for Youth Foundations™ Facilitators Guide will be available on February 26th.

Personality Dimensions® – Making a Difference

pexels-photo-264636.jpegEvery once in a while we get little reminders that what we do makes a difference in the lives of others. A while ago I had just such a reminder. It arrived at a time when I was wondering if the work that we do researching, developing and, ultimately, adding to the Personality Dimensions® system really did make an impact. Let me tell you a little story…

I was standing in line at the grocery store, reading the headlines of the tabloids and looking at the pictures of the cookies displayed on the cover of a couple magazines and noticed that the cashier was looking up at me every so often. My turn came and after I’d finished loading my purchases onto the belt the cashier said, “I know who you are … you’re the colours lady.” I hadn’t a clue who she was.

She told me that she was, after several years working at various jobs, going back to school to get her ECE diploma so she could work with young children. She concluded with, “… and don’t you think that’s perfect for someone who is Authentic Blue?” I agreed with her that it sounded like a great choice and she was really pleased. I still didn’t know who she was.

Finally, I told her that I was delighted she remembered her temperament/colour but I hadn’t done any training in a while so I couldn’t place her. It turned out that she had been a member of a group of high school students who prototyped the earliest Personality Dimensions® at School materials twelve years prior!

I don’t know if this young woman is now working with young children, or perhaps she’s moved on to something different. What I do know is that learning her Personality Dimensions® was a memorable experience for her and has played a role in shaping her choices. I also know that yes, what we do does make a difference. I hope that every Personality Dimensions® Facilitator knows and appreciates this responsibility, I know that I do.

Personality Dimensions® – Core, Developed, and Contextual Self

Every once in a while someone will ask if it’s possible to identify the colour preference of  children, or if their preference carries through to adulthood. We haven’t done specific research on this but it is accepted temperament theory that children are clear in their colour preference and that it develops as they mature – the Core Self becomes the Developed Self and Contextual Self (thanks to Linda Berens for these terrific identifiers). Well, I can’t speak for other people but I’d like to tell you a couple of stories from my own childhood that illustrate my first colour preference has certainly remained consistent.

 

I am the oldest child in my family. My Dad had a sliver grey ‘58 Pontiac sedan that he kept in top running condition. And I spent hours leaning over the side of the hood watching what he was doing and driving him crazy with questions about how everything worked. My kindergarten teacher even remarked to my parents at one time that she thought I could build the car myself. To this day I am still fascinated by how things work.

When I was 7 years old my Dad took my cousin and I to see the circus. That was a huge treat at the time (remember, that was over 55 years ago; circuses were a very big deal). I was fascinated by the whole thing –- the performances, the music, the animals – and all the special lighting effects and how the trapezes and draperies, etc., were raised and lowered. The next evening during dinner my Mother and Father were talking about the show and I was so surprised to hear my Dad say, “I don’t think Denise saw any of the show, she was so busy looking up, watching whatever was going on in the rafters.” I was stunned. Of course I had seen the show! But I’d also enjoyed figuring out how all the other things were working – eventually estimating, by the timing of the lights or the change in backdrop or draperies when something else was going to happen (it’s actually still quite clear in my mind). Fascinating stuff to a 7 year old, or, at least, a 7 year old Inquiring Green. My parents must have wondered what made me tick from time to time.
